“Dear Jesus!” pretty much sums up Todd Widman’s first impressions of doing Grace with a strongman log at Rainier CrossFit.
With instruction from Kurtis Bowler and Dan Castillo, Widman catches on very quickly, learning that one of the keys is to avoid a perfectly upright torso during the push-press/jerk portion of the movement. Because a strongman log is far bigger than a barbell, you actually have to lean back during the dip in order to keep the weight over your center of gravity. After that, the rest is “easy.”
