The women’s competition at the Northeast Regional was held May 22-23 in Albany, N.Y. Included in the field of athletes were 2009 Games competitors Heather Keenan Bergeron, Stacy Kroon, Lauren Plumey and Kim Malz, in addition to hopefuls Jessica Pamanian, Jennifer Hunter, Sarah Scholl, Karianne Dickson, Alecia Gomez and others.

For Keenan Bergeron, it was a chance to get back to California and get rid of the nightmares she’s had since missing the Top 16 cut by just one point at the 2009 Games.

The regional featured four events:

WOD 1—21, 15, 9 reps of overhead squats (95 lb.) and chest-to-bar pull-ups.

WOD 2—3-rep-max clean and jerk in 40 seconds.

WOD 3—As many rounds as possible in 12 minutes of 7 deadlifts (185 lb.), 7 handstand push-ups, 14 box jumps (20 inches).

WOD 4—10 power cleans (115 lb.), 30 meter plate carry (25 lb.), 20 calories on SkiErg, 30-meter run, 30 power snatches (65 lb.), 30-meter plate carry (25 lb.), 40 burpees, 30-meter sled push (50 lb.), 60 double-unders, 30-meter run.

By winning the final event, Lauren Plumey moved up two spots to finish third overall behind Heather Keenan Bergeron (first) and Jessica Pamanian (second), all of whom will next compete in California in July. For Keenan Bergeron the win represents another step toward a shot at redemption.

I'm upset I missed the event that weekend, but I gotta admit that Lauren Plumey is my official CrossFit crush!
