The 2010 Games are almost upon us, so Tommy Hackenbruck has to train hard at all times, and that includes burpees during a golf tournament.
Flashback to May 2009 and Hackenbruck was scrambling to get into the CrossFit Games. Finding a bid by way of the Last Chance Qualifier, Hackenbruck showed the world what he was made of by finishing second overall at the ’09 event, pre-qualifying himself for the 2010 Games.
This year, Hackenbruck put in a stellar performance with his affiliate team, the Iron Utes, who finished second overall at the Northwest Regional. After helping them qualify for the Games, it was time for Tommy to turn his attention toward his own quest to climb back on the podium as an individual.
Hackenbruck has cleaned up his diet and increased his focus but is also managing his own gym, Ute CrossFit, and working with wife Bobby to raise their first child. Will his newfound focus tip the scales in the right direction or will his new responsibilities weigh too heavy on his shoulders?
Right now, the answer to that question is as unknown as the Games events themselves.
