George Peeko is a special athlete, but he’ll tell you he’s just another CrossFitter who gives his all in every workout.
George Peeko is a CrossFitter.
His times and stats are impressive. He is 5’5” and weighs 154 lb. He can squat 345, press 155, bench 275 and deadlift 355. His times with some of the benchmarks are as follows:
Fran: 4:14
Grace: 3:29
Linda: 21:01
Angie: 14:03
Lumberjack 20: 24:00.
As notable as these stats are, it’s important to put them into the proper perspective: George does all his workouts with one hand.
Most would consider this a handicap. George would rather you not consider it at all. George would be the last to shine light on himself, but because of his amazing ability to overachieve I felt he deserved some recognition for his efforts. It wasn't until after some coaxing that I was able to talk him into this acknowledgment.

Thanks both. I have patients like this. If it's all right with you, I would like to share this with them.
Good job. You just helped some folks, I guarantee it.

Great piece. Stories like these keep me from missing a WOD because I'm too sore or tired. I agree with Ryan's comment: you are a beast!

Love it. If its okay, I am going to print it out and have my guys read it and think about the next time when they complain about me pushing them to hard in PT. Keep more stories like these coming.

Great Job George and Jason! I have a member and friend at my box who recently lost the fingers of his left hand in an accident at work and I am inspired by his never give-up attitude too. We have been experimenting with ways to allow him to do all WOD's Rx'd and would love to hear any input you guys have with how you've been dealing with some of the more grip reliant exercises. Keep on kicking ass George!

I have several "negative" people where I work that work very hard finding reasons not to workout. I can't begin to say how refreshing it is to know there are people out there like crossfitters to keep me motivated. Awesome article!

I loved the article. I would like to get in contact with George if possible to compare notes. My right arm is a radial club birth defect which means I have 3 fingers and an unbendable elbow. I've been crossfitting for 8 months and always looking for better "implements" to aid my right grip.
I do most of the Olys 1 armed but with some of the hooks/etc. he uses, I might be able to add my right arm to some. I use two lifting straps sewn together at their ends right now.

James...thanks for sharing this story with us. I am happy to have read this because 5 minutes ago one of the students just walked into the gym to ask about training. Of course, I said sure when do you want to start, and then he showed me his hand, or stump as he calls it. Turns out it is exactly the same as George. I would love to chat with you or George to gather some ideas with respect to his training.
Thanks in advance,
Karl MacPhee
