In Olympic Lifts, Radio, Special Populations

On Episode 136 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Scott Zagarino of Sportsgrants Foundation and Mike Burgener, CrossFit’s subject-matter expert for Olympic weightlifting. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010.
3:45 Scott Zagarino is the founder of the Fight Gone Bad fundraiser events. He came on the show to talk about the Fight Gone Bad 5 event that’s scheduled for Sept. 25. Scott detailed the creation and history of the event and described how they’ve been able to raise over $1 million for charities. He explained how the event works and described ways affiliates and the average CrossFitter can get involved and help. Scott also shared what it’s like to have veterans or cancer patients know people care and want to help them.
32:15 Coach Mike Burgener owns Mike’s Gym, a regional training center for USA Weightlifting. Coach B. has been instrumental in helping coordinate things between CrossFit and the USAW for the upcoming CrossFit-USAW Open coming up on Oct. 1 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Burgener gave his thoughts on the event and also gave advice for athletes preparing for the competition. He talked about the rules and named several athletes he feels will do well at the competition. The father of top U.S. lifter Casey Burgener also talked about Team CrossFit, which is a competitive Olympic weightlifting team.
