On Episode 178 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Auvie Kincer, one of the organizers of the Afghan Games, and Aja Barto, who just won the South Central Regional. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.

2:50 Auvie Kincer just returned from military duty in Afghanistan, and he came on the show to talk about a CrossFit competition that will be held at Kandahar Airfield in September. Auvie and the other organizers have joined forces with Life AsRX, Kandahar CrossFit and several others to promote and host a down-and-dirty competition in Afghanistan. Auvie described how the idea came about and how people can participate even if they won’t be in Afghanistan in September. Auvie also gave information on how CrossFitters can help make the event a success.

21:15 Aja Barto recently won the South Central Regional by an impressive 16 points. He described his experience at regionals and what it feels like to qualify for the Reebok CrossFit Games. Aja detailed his training over the past year and described how he has worked on his weaknesses, including watching film on the Amanda workout from the 2010 Games and changing the way he does muscle-ups to be more efficient. He explained what final preparations he will make before the Games and shared a little about his athletic background, which includes time in the Texas Rangers organization.
