On Episode 195 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Shannon DeGraw and Seminar Staff member Spencer Nix. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011.

The Workout of the Week (WOW) is from the 2010 MidWestern Sectional.

For time:
20 thrusters
20 sumo deadlift high pulls
20 push jerks
20 overhead squats
20 front squats

Men use 95 lb, and women use 65 lb. Each athlete must do four burpees at the beginning of every minute before moving on to the barbell work.

6:20 Shannon DeGraw has dropped 100 lb. since starting CrossFit a year ago. She came on the show to talk about her experience and explained what it was like to try and lose weight at a Globo Gym. Things were very different when she walked into CrossFit Belmar. DeGraw talked about the first few weeks of working out and what got her to stick with it, and she described what it’s like for her to be a part of the CrossFit community. DeGraw detailed her nutrition and explained what adjustments she has made to succeed when myriad “fad diets” failed her.

35:30 Spencer Nix is a member of HQ’s Seminar Staff and is also a trainer at CrossFit Dallas Central. Nix talked about deciding to pursue an opportunity to be on an Olympic team and explained why he chose the sport of bobsled. Nix described the qualification process and how he just got the news that he made the U.S. Bobsled Team. According to Nix, he prefers the box to the Olympic Training Center, and he talked about the unique programming at CrossFit Dallas Central. Nix closed by talking about what it’s like to be on HQ’s Seminar Staff.
