In the summer of 2010, Lou Callejas, his wife and son went to Houston to visit his parents. His brother, who lived in Tucson, was there, too.

“He was lookin’ pretty nice. He had a nice body. He was lookin’ pretty tough, pretty ripped,” Callejas said.

Turns out his brother had been CrossFitting. At that time, Callejas was 5 foot 8 and about 205 lb. For the previous five or six years, he had been “sitting down on the couch watching TV … and not really exercising,” says the former high-school and college soccer player. So he hopped on the computer and searched for a CrossFit affiliate near his home in North Carolina. What he found was CrossFit Vitality in Concord, N.C.

Today, Callejas is 172 lb. and on CrossFit Vitality’s coaching staff. For the time being, he wants to keep improving as a CrossFitter and as a coach. Within the next two years, he’d like to open his own gym.

“I just enjoyed all aspects of it,” he says. “I just fell in love with it right away.”
