Finally, a good night’s rest—and a kick-ass dream for Austin Malleolo.
“I had a dream that regionals were today. And I woke up and I was like, ‘What an idiot. Why did I work out like I did the past few days? I’m compromised.’ Then I won regionals,” he recounts during breakfast. “The workouts were weird we were shooting bow and arrows.”
The day starts at the Fruita, Colo., home of garage CrossFitter Nate Beard. Despite his “legit” space, as Sherwood calls it, Beard also is a member of a local affiliate.
“You still need to be a part of the community,” Beard says. “You can’t replace that competitive spirit of being there and doing a WOD with a bunch of people.”
The day ends with a holiday party at Denver’s CrossFit Verve.
Part 6 brings the road trip to an end and draws reflections on CrossFit’s growth.
“The community has not changed even though it’s gotten bigger,” Hobart says. “The spirit of it has not changed.”
Malleolo agrees, calling it “unparalleled by anything.”
“I am honored to be a part of it,” he says. “It’s awesome.”
