In CrossFit, HD Videos, The CrossFit Life
April 25, 2012

The last time Gary Roberts weighed 230 lb., he was in his 20s. Now, at almost 40 years old, he’s down to 236 lb. after a few weeks of WODs at Oceanside CrossFit and eating Paleo.
In this episode of Killing the Fat Man—called “I don’t think I will every buy cereal again”—Roberts talks about his improved mood, a better relationship with his 15-year-old daughter and revamped eating habits.
“I was such in a rut in life,” he says. “I’m working out, I’m feeling better about myself. I’m not so down about the future overall.”
Roberts has eliminated fast food and soda, as well as bread and pasta.
Plus, he finally got double-unders and kipping pull-ups.
“To have my family look at me and be proud of me is exciting.”

I think these videos should be mandatory viewing for anyone thinking about going from couch to Crossfit...very real ( and funny!). I am desperately waiting for a Crossfit to open in my city, due in May, and am taking all this information in!

Gary, keep it up... I started crossfit 7 months ago, DIY, do it yourself, with a website called Train to Hunt, and I alreadyy lived what you're going through now. Keep it up, the effort is well worth it. Fitness is more mental than physical... You have a great family and great coaches...you will succeed . Once you DECIDE to better yourself , you will succeed. 3,2,1...Go.!

Gary, Great job! Regarding the foods in the house, my daughter, with her very own attitude freaked when we chucked all of the processed food from the house and never allowed it back it in. There was initial resentment and a bit of a war, but as the parent we rule. She is now in college and still consumes barely any processed foods. Do what's right for them.

My first day of Crossfit was on the 17th. These videos are very much hitting home. Everything Gary is/has gone through is exactly what I'm feeling.
Great series, can't wait for more.

I love this guy and his changed attitude! He totally GETS it now, and that is a beautiful thing. He doesn't whine about the food he no longer eats, but seems to fully understand WHY he doesn't want to anymore, and that is HUGE. I hope his family can also learn that it's not a "punishment" as his daughter said, but something so wonderful and life-changing that soon they will be glad to eat real food and enjoy life more. Gary certainly is being a fantastic example with his enthusiasm! And as I like to quote, "Example isn't the most important thing influencing others, it's the ONLY thing." Keep up the amazing work, Gary! You will experience changes in your life beyond your wildest dreams!

I love this series for so many reasons. Gary, I'm glad you are sticking with it and changing your life, I promise you'll never want to go back. This will be an amazing tool to show people who think they cannot do CrossFit. So many people see a WOD or Games footage and think these people are not right in the head, I could never do that. This is proof that if you get your mind right, the body will follow suit. Proud of you Gary, keep it up!
