On Episode 241 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed adventure racer Sean Clancy and Seminar Staff member Cherie Chan. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.
The Words of Wisdom are from an article titled “Ten Tips for Success for the CrossFit Newbie” by Larry Palazzolo, found on the CrossFit Delaware Valley website. Even though Palazzolo’s advice is great for new CrossFitters, his tips are equally beneficial to CrossFit veterans.
10:32 Sean Clancy has competed in adventure races all around the world since 1997, and he explained how he found adventure racing and why it’s his sport of choice. Clancy described the different demands of the sport and detailed how some of his team members CrossFit in order to prepare them physically and mentally for the challenges they encounter. He talked about how he trained for adventure racing before finding CrossFit and gave advice to any CrossFit athlete thinking of trying the outdoor sport.
33:20 Cherie Chan and her husband Matt own CrossFit Verve in Denver, Colo., and they’re both on the Level 1 Seminar Staff. Cherie explained how she found CrossFit and why she was hooked after doing 120 pull-ups and 120 dips (substituted for 30 muscle-ups) for her first workout. Cherie talked about how she met Matt and why fitness has always been an important component of their lives, and she described an upcoming Airstream adventure. They plan to sell their home and have business partners handle the day-to-day business at CrossFit Verve while they travel the country with their portable Rogue gym, living in a trailer and taking advantage of outdoor activities such as mountain biking and climbing.
