On Episode 243 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed gymnastics expert and DogTown CrossFit owner Dusty Hyland. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.
The Words of Wisdom are from an article by Lisbeth Darsh: Snatching: The Answer to Everything in Life.
5:57 Dusty Hyland is one of the owners of DogTown CrossFit in Culver City, Calif., and he came on the show to talk about why CrossFitters need high-level gymnastics skills. Hyland described his gymnastics background and how he found CrossFit, and he talked about training Games athletes Valerie Voboril, Lindsey Valenzuela and Ruth Anderson Horrell. He described why having a solid gymnastics foundation is important for being able to learn and develop as a CrossFit athlete. Hyland lost a brother-in-law to cancer, and his business partner survived the disease, so DogTown CrossFit puts on a Crush Cancer fundraiser every year. Hyland described the upcoming event and relayed how people can get involved no matter where they live. Finally, he talked about helping Jeff Tucker with the CrossFit Gymnastics Trainer Course and described their book that will be published soon.
