On Episode 246 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed CrossFit Games Masters champion Marnel King and CrossFit Excel co-owner Nick Hobby. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012.

The Words of Wisdom are from an Oct. 15 Los Angeles Times article titled Lack of sleep can seriously affect metabolism, study finds, by Jon Bardin.

4:08 Marnel King won the 55-59 Division at the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games, and she came on the show to share her experience at the Games. King had recovered from shoulder surgery the year before, and she described the commitment it took to recover and then compete at that level. She talked about her varied athletic and competition background and detailed why CrossFit is her sport of choice. King shared a little about her training since the Games and described how she balances her workouts, career and other facets of life.

32:42 Nick Hobby is a high-school P.E. teacher who incorporates CrossFit into his classes. Hobby and his students were recently featured in a CrossFit Journal video, and he came on the show to share more details. Hobby explained how he started doing WODs after school and how students wanted to do them with him. He said he’s now turning students into athletes even if they don’t compete in traditional sports. Hobby also co-owns CrossFit Excel, and he spoke about how his P.E. classes compare to the classes at his box.
