On Episode 247 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Tami Martin and 2008 CrossFit Games champion Jason Khalipa. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.

The Words of Wisdom are from CrossFit Verve’s website, where an essay explains why CrossFitters should eat different forms of animal protein for breakfast every day.

4:05 Tami Martin is from Beaverton, Ore., and started CrossFitting about 18 months ago. The self-proclaimed couch potato described why she chose CrossFit after researching it for a long time, and she explained how her life has changed since she starting. Some time ago, Martin decided to enter her first CrossFit competition. She described her biggest takeaway from the competition and why it was such a growing experience for her. Martin also gave advice to other women who are on the journey to fitness.

32:08 2008 CrossFit Games Champion Jason Khalipa recently competed in the Team U.S.A. vs. Team Europe event in London, and he talked about why the competition was so exciting. He liked the team aspect so much that if he could have the same teammates for the CrossFit Games season, he said he would go team rather than individual. Khalipa is an extremely busy affiliate owner and member of the Level 1 Seminar Staff, and he spoke about balancing all his roles with training as an athlete. He described his current training and gave advice to other CrossFitters who want to compete at a high level. On the affiliate front, Khalipa talked about how his group of boxes is doing a fundraiser to raise money for people in Kenya.

Great show JJ. I just passed my Level 1 and am waiting on my affiliation to go through. The Cali Bear is awesome. Love the comment on programming "get out of your head. Just show up with some buddies and throw down"!! Just awesome. You also need to get Eric O'Connor from park city on. He ran my L 1 and was awesome. His thoughts on teaching versus just doing "boot camp classes" at boxes really stuck with me. It will be a guiding principle of my box.
