CrossFit is growing quickly in South America, and there are a total of 14 boxes in Ecuador according to the Affiliate Finder Map. Most of the affiliates are Guayaquil, the country’s largest city.
“CrossFit in Latin American, especially in my country, is a huge movement. It’s something like a counter-culture,” explains Carlos Andrade, a Level 1 Seminar Staff member.
Andrade, a nutritionist, owns CrossFit Guayaquil.
“We have boxes with hundreds of members,” he says with a big smile. “It’s incredible.”
Andrade’s grandfather and young daughter do CrossFit, and he says what he values most about the program is the tight-knit community.
“It’s incredible,” he says. “For me, CrossFit is life because I (found) a method, a way of life to define the pursuit of happiness. Happiness in life: try to be good or be comfortable in different kinds of situations, situations of life, not just in the box.”
