4:52 Yvetta Ripley turned 50 and knew her life needed to change. Living a sedentary lifestyle made worse by smoking seemed to compound her multiple sclerosis symptoms. When her husband suggested CrossFit in 2010, she decided to give it a try, knowing she could quit if she didn’t like it. It turns out she enjoyed CrossFit right from the beginning. Ripley described how her life has changed since starting CrossFit and how she is now off all her MS medicine. She also explained how the community at her box is almost like family and provides constant encouragement.
23:49 Darren Ellis told his story of finding CrossFit after coming from an exercise-science background in college. He detailed how and why he decided to start CrossFit New Zealand, the first affiliate in the country. CrossFit has grown rapidly since then, and he told how he works with other affiliate owners to promote community in his country. Ellis explained how CrossFit flew in the face of conventional fitness ideas and made him look past his textbooks to find a new definition of fitness. Finally, he talked about scaling and gave advice to coaches who need to modify workouts for special athletes.
