Meet Nicole Gordon

By Nicole Gordon

Video Article

She was once known as the woman who hit her finger with a sledgehammer at the 2009 CrossFit Games in Aromas, Calif. Today, Nicole Gordon might be more well known for being a member of CrossFit’s Level 1 Seminar Staff.

“I don’t know that everybody wakes up every day and has a job that they’re excited to go to,” Gordon says.

She’s also a coach at CrossFit Hampton Roads.

“My favorite parts are when somebody comes in and … they accomplished something outside of the gym that they never thought they could,” she says. “I am happy. I’m happy. I’m doing what I want to do.”

The animated mother of two also has a deep connection to her family.

“They’re awesome,” Gordon says of her children, fighting back tears. “I love my kids. I love my kids. They are my everything.”

Given how much she cares for her family, it might be surprising that Gordon spends a fair bit of time away from it when traveling to instruct at CrossFit Level 1 Seminars, but that just illustrates how she feels about teaching CrossFit to others.

“I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t love it so much and think it was worth two days of just not seeing them,” she says.

Hi Nicole, your video is so inspirational to me! I have two little little girls and the same passion as you. CrossFit is mine and my husband's life - our bread. We owe CrossFit Silicon Valley in San Jose. It is great to see your family living very similar way of living as we do. I have to admit to you my eyes got teary in the part about the kids.
Wish you and your family all the best, and thank you for the awesome video!

They say you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. Lucky for CrossFit, Nicole Gordon is that rare inspiration that makes friends easily and cares for those friends, and the growing CrossFit community, with a purpose and passion that most can only dream of.

Jeremy, Matthew, and Lilly you've got an amazing Wife, Mom, and the kindest CrossFit Firebreather ever... thanks for sharing.

Nicole, thanks for bringing your love for life and CrossFit to so many of us. We are made better because of you. Safe travels, more PRs, and keep inspiring the fire in yourself and others!

I met Nicole at my Level 1 cert at CrossFit TNT in June 2012, and she was amazing. You could easily see her passion for CrossFit and developing those of us that were taking our first steps to becoming coaches. She has such a welcoming personality and it was great to see another side of her in the video with her kids - very touching.

Nicole, I was at that Games working for Concept2 the year that you hurt your finger. When you wanted to continue the WOD and row. I remember say that is one tough woman! That bloody rower went to CrossFit Diablo in case you ever want to row it again. - Greg / Concept2
