On Episode 329 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed South Central Regional competitor Roy Gamboa, as well as multiyear CrossFit Games athlete Lucas Parker. This episode was webcast on May 7, 2014.
1:55 Roy Gamboa finished 22nd at the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games, and he was first in the Open in the South Central Region in 2014. Gamboa has already tried out this year’s Regional workouts, and he explained his strategy for the upcoming competition. Gamboa talked about his approach to the three hang snatches in Event 1 and noted the differences between his hang snatch and his full snatch. While he joined an affiliate this year and got a coach, Gamboa said his programming is still his own design and features an interesting approach to attacking weaknesses. The South Central Regional begins on May 23, and Gamboa explained how he’ll train in the next two weeks.
13:18 A three-time Games competitor, Lucas Parker is a crowd favorite at the big show. Just before competition at the Canada West Regional, Parker gave his thoughts on this year’s events and suggested the results might be different if the order of events were reversed. Parker said he narrowly avoided a training mistake this year, and he explained that his plan to complete the 2014 Regional events ahead of time was disrupted by a small injury. Parker highlighted a few things he expects to challenge competitors at Regionals, and he described how his current training fits into his overall plan to one day reach the podium at the Games.
