On Episode 332 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Amanda Schwartz, who qualified for the CrossFit Games via the South Central Regional. Jason Khalipa, 2008 Games champion, was featured on the second half of the show. This episode was webcast on May 28, 2014.
2:21 The third time was the charm for Amanda Schwartz. Two years ago, she placed fourth and missed qualifying for the CrossFit Games by one spot. Last year, she injured her arm during the second event and withdrew from the competition. Schwartz spoke about her road to the Games and described her experience at this year’s Regional. Going into the last event, several women were targeting third place, and Schwarz said she had to dig deep in order to take the final Games spot. With the Games approaching quickly, the Premier CrossFit athlete talked about how she’ll prepare for the big show in Carson, California.
14:13 On the eve of the Northern California Regional, perennial Games athlete Jason Khalipa said competition never gets easier and he’s never comfortable before a big event such as a Regional. Khalipa compared his current fitness level to that of last year, when he finished second at the Games, and the six-time Games competitor gave his thoughts on some of the athletes who didn’t make it back to Carson in 2014. Khalipa’s longevity at the top of the sport is proof he’s a well-rounded athlete, and he explained how the programming shouldn’t matter if you don’t have any chinks in your armor. Going into the hotly contested NorCal Regional, Khalipa, talked about his plan and the advice he gave the athletes and teams he coaches.
