It takes more than just a Level 1 Certificate to run a successful CrossFit affiliate. In this series, learn about the various ways affiliate owners and trainers evolve and plan as they work to lead the fitness industry.

In Part 1, CrossFit Inc.’s Tyson Oldroyd sits down with Pat Burke of MBS CrossFit, CrossFit Verve founders Matt and Cherie Chan, Nicole Christensen of CrossFit Roots, and David Tittle of CrossFit Low Oxygen, who share what they’ve learned about owning and running affiliates over the years.

“We’re the product,” says Cherie Chan, who opened CrossFit Verve in 2008. “You’ve got to put money and attention into your product, which is your trainers.”

Other topics up for discussion include the importance of continuing education and understanding the moral obligation that comes with handling clients’ health and wellness.

This is a GREAT video and I can't wait to see the rest of the series. I think the best thing is they mentioned a few times about there being 5 gyms in their 10 mile radius, and not once did they say anything about lack of quality. Instead it was all about making them better to stand out. No complaining. Just be better.

This is perfect timing for me because I just wrote an article on my affiliate's page about the same thing. I basically think the affiliate owners need to follow this advice from Cherie and crew and take ownership of the state of CrossFit. Here's my article for anyone interested.
