A key concept Greg Amundson teaches in the CrossFit Goal Setting Course is how to use the mind to command the body.

But sometimes, says the Original Firebreather, the mind follows the body.

“When we are challenged with that negative self-talk, immediately what I want you to do is assess your posture,” Amundson says at the CrossFit Experience at the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games.

“Look at your body. What you’ll see is that you’re probably not breathing deeply, I betcha that your weight’s on your toes, you probably lost your lumbar curve.”

To illustrate his point, he has the group do a partner workout: every minute on the minute for 20 minutes, perform one additional burpee. Partners can divvy up burpees however they wish; each person must do at least one rep each round. Before each round, each person must practice his or her positive, powerful posture.

“To get better at the physical skill, what do we do? We practice,” Amundson explains. “It’s the same thing on the mental side of the house, my friends. We have to practice.”

Thank you for adding a dimension that should be injected into everyday life lessons. I vow to "Do the common uncommonly well"... After competing in gymnastics for over 20 years, I wish I would have heard your words when I was younger. As a gymnastics coach for high school girls now, I can pass this on to my team members. After watching this video last night while on duty @ the firehouse and then knocking out a wod today with my wife, I found the 'power position' to be more powerful than I had thought. I not only smashed my shin again (I had done it recently about a month ago but then requiring 10 stitches) but programmed a tough one in the 100 degree heat and found the 'power position' pushed me through. What a great tool to add to our coaching tool box.

Thank you Mr.Greg Amundson for your well thought concepts, very powerful stuff. The value of your contributions to the CrossFit community are immeasurable but observable & repeatable.

Awesome video and just a sliver of all the incredible material he has in his Goal Setting and Positive Self Talk Certification.

Ahhhhh, I missed this while on family vaca! Greg is beyond an AMAZING guy, seriously, the guy just blows my mind every time we chat!

I agree, Greg IS the essence of CrossFit.

I've been lucky enough to host and partake in Greg's Goal Setting Seminar and man, did he ROCK the freaking house!

We had MANY athletes transformed that day. I had to take Greg to the airport and had to leave an entire room of attendees to their own as they WANTED TO TRAIN soooo badly after Greg left, ha ha.

I told one dude to lock up and leave my key at the gym next door! It was hilarious and amazing at the same time.

If you are reading this you gotta see Greg's web site. He has a "WOD-cation" and if I was closer or could travel more, I'd be ON it. I plan to trek to Santa Cruz and spend time there regardless, but Greg will change your life, no 2 ways about it.

Greg. thank you for being YOU, my brutha!
